Beaverdale began as edge land. The Beaverdale Neighborhood Association says what is now the neighborhood was once the rural western edge of nineteenth-century Des Moines, made up of large tracts devoted to fruit orchards and truck farms. That older landscape still helps explain why Beaverdale feels
